Highlights:

The project has been awarded to Patel Engineering Limited (PEL) on 15.02.2019, and the date of appointment is 01.04.2019. Total project cost is 647.22 crores.

The project actual date of commencement is 01.04.2019 and is now substantially completed. The project was successfully inaugurated on 09.03.2024 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, and since then the project has been successfully open for highway traffic.

Project Overview

Carriageway width for Main Tunnel is 8.50 m (includes 3.50 m lane width with 0.50 m edge strip on both sides). For Egress Tunnel Carriage Way, the width is 4.00 m (includes 3.00 m lane width with 0.50 m edge strip on both sides).

Minimum Vertical Clearance for Main Tunnel: -5.50 m over carriageway width and 2.10 m over footpath. For Egress Tunnel Minimum Vertical Clearance: -4.00 m over carriageway width and 2.00 m over footpath.

The construction of roads is broadly divided into the following major activities:.

  • Earthwork up to the top of the subgrade.
  • Granular work (sub-base, base, shoulders).
  • Wet Mix Macadam.
  • Bituminous work—DBM & BC.
  • New Construction Of Culverts
  • New Minor bridges
  • (a) Foundation
  • (b) Sub-structure
  • (c)Super-structure
  • (d) Others (including     crash barriers, Expansion      joint, Returns / Wing walls,painting,g etc. complete)
  • Road signs, markings, km stones, boundary stones, safetydevices,s etc.
  • W Beam Crash Barrier
  • Protection Work
  • Rock Fall Protection Work
  • Site clearance & Dismantling
Technical Details:

The construction of works under the scope of Design & Construction of Balipara-Charduar Tawang Road Section of National Highway 13 including two main tunnels having lengths of 1594.90 meter & 1003.34 meter and one egress tunnel having 1584.38 meter, is broadly divided into the following major activities.

  • Portal Development, including support system.
  • Excavation with Drilling & Blasting (NATM Method).
  • Primary Support System.
  • Instrumentation & monitoring.
  • Permanent Dewaterin
  • Lining concrete, 300 mm thick.
  • Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC).
  • Drain & Footpath Construction.
  • Tunnel signage/safety devices.
  • Ventilation
